Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, issued a chilling nuclear threat from Tampa, Florida, warning that if Pakistan faced an existential threat in a war with India, it would “take half the world down with us”. Speaking at a dinner hosted by businessman Adnan Asad, Tampa’s honorary consul, Munir marked the first known instance of such a threat delivered on US soil against a third country. The event, attended by around 120 Pakistani-origin individuals and reportedly an Israel Defence Forces representative, banned cellphones and digital devices.
Munir also threatened to destroy Indian infrastructure on the Indus water channels, claiming India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty after the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack endangers 250 million people. “We will destroy it with 10 missiles… The Indus River is not India’s family property,” he declared, emphasizing Pakistan’s missile capabilities. He criticized India for not disclosing losses from a recent four-day military conflict, urging transparency while promising Pakistan would do the same.
Referencing Surah Al-Fil from the Quran, Munir hinted at targeting India’s eastern resources, notably mentioning industrialist Mukesh Ambani, before moving westward. In a striking analogy, he compared India to a “shiny Mercedes” and Pakistan to a “dump truck full of gravel,” suggesting a collision would devastate India more.
Munir, on his second US visit in two months, reiterated his endorsement of US President Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize, following a June 18 White House luncheon. The remarks, drawn from prepared notes, underscore escalating tensions and Pakistan’s provocative stance amid ongoing India-Pakistan frictions.
