National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, in a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, stressed the critical need to counter terrorism in all its forms to ensure regional stability.
The remarks, made during a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conclave, indirectly referenced Pakistan’s support for cross-border terrorism, particularly following India’s May 7 strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.
Doval and Wang reviewed India-China relations, strained since the 2020 eastern Ladakh standoff, and emphasized fostering ties through enhanced people-to-people engagement. The Ministry of External Affairs noted their commitment to advancing bilateral relations.

Doval’s call for countering terrorism subtly urged China to pressure its ally Pakistan to act against terror groups.
Chinese envoy Xu Feihong quoted Wang, saying both nations should enhance trust and maintain border tranquility for a “win-win” outcome. Doval expressed India’s support for China’s SCO presidency and readiness for multilateral collaboration.
They also discussed regional and global issues, with Doval inviting Wang for the next Special Representatives talks in India.
The talks follow a successful disengagement in Ladakh’s Demchok and Depsang, finalized on October 21, 2024, after a Modi-Xi meeting in Kazan. The SCO conclave, hosted by China, underscores efforts to rebuild ties post the 2020 Galwan clash.
