Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday inaugurated Cyient AI Labs (CyAILS) — branded as ‘VijAIpatha’ — at a girls’ government school in Hosapete taluk, Karnataka. The initiative will introduce Artificial Intelligence, STEM, and Robotics education in government schools under a pilot phase.
Five state-of-the-art laboratories are being established in government schools as part of the pilot, each equipped with high-performance computers, AI-ready software, robotics kits, IoT devices, sensors, and secure broadband connectivity. The labs are designed to provide students with hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technologies.
Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, Digital India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, the program integrates the CBSE AI curriculum and aims to strengthen technology-enabled learning across public schools. The initiative seeks to cultivate digital literacy, computational thinking, and innovation skills from an early age.

The program focuses particularly on rural and semi-urban schools, aiming to bridge the digital divide and empower students with future-ready skills. Over 2,000 students are expected to benefit directly, while more than 200 teachers will receive specialized training to facilitate effective technology-driven learning.
Designed as a scalable and replicable model, VijAIpatha can be adopted across districts and states in partnership with government education departments. The initiative positions itself as a benchmark CSR model for nationwide AI education expansion, emphasizing sustainability and long-term impact.
Officials highlighted that the labs will not only enhance career readiness but also foster grassroots digital empowerment, nurturing a culture of innovation and scientific curiosity among students. By bringing advanced technologies into government schools, Karnataka aims to create a pipeline of skilled students prepared for the technology-driven economy of the future.
