Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Chetan Kumar Srivastava visited the site of a transformative Wagon Periodic Overhauling (POH) workshop in Basbari, Kokrajhar district, Assam, on Thursday. This ambitious project is set to revolutionize the region’s logistics and industrial landscape, promising significant economic benefits.
The Basbari POH workshop, with a Phase I budget of Rs 256.35 crore, will initially overhaul 75 wagons monthly, scaling up to a full capacity of 250 wagons per month. Strategically located just 1 km from Basbari railway station and 17 km from Rupsi Airport, the 825-acre facility boasts excellent multimodal connectivity.
Srivastava emphasized the workshop’s role in meeting the rising demand for freight transport, driven by ongoing rail infrastructure projects like new lines and track doubling. The facility, equipped with modern amenities for stripping, body repair, painting, and quality control, will enhance operational efficiency while prioritizing safety and sustainability.
