In Maharashtra’s Thane district, relentless heavy rains left vast areas submerged, creating chaos and cutting off access to essential services. Amid this deluge, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) displayed remarkable compassion by ensuring the last rites of an elderly woman were performed with dignity. The woman, who passed away due to natural causes at a rehabilitation center in Phalagaon near Titwala, could not be taken to the local crematorium, which had been underwater since Tuesday.
With roads impassable, Kalyan tehsildar Sachin Shejal called upon the NDRF team stationed nearby. On Wednesday morning, the team navigated floodwaters using a tube boat to transport the woman’s body to an accessible crematorium. Their efforts ensured her final journey was conducted respectfully, despite the challenging conditions.
Local resident Anil Patil praised the NDRF’s dedication, saying, “Their commitment goes beyond saving lives—they honored a soul’s final passage with care.” The operation highlighted the NDRF’s vital role in supporting communities during crises.
