The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) held a solemn Commemoration and Remembrance Day on Friday at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi to honor its 17 martyrs who laid down their lives while performing rescue operations. The ceremony was graced by Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Minister of State for Home Affairs, who served as the chief guest alongside families of the martyrs, senior officials from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), students, and other dignitaries.
The event commenced with a moving Commemoration Parade, followed by emotionally stirring performances from the NDRF Band and several school bands, setting an atmosphere of reverence and remembrance. Piyush Anand, IPS, Director General of NDRF, expressed profound gratitude to the families of the martyrs and recalled their heroic sacrifices during critical missions such as the 2013 Uttarakhand disaster, where nine rescuers lost their lives. He reaffirmed the NDRF’s enduring commitment to safeguard the nation with the same dedication exhibited by its fallen heroes.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar paid tribute to the valor and courage of the NDRF personnel who perform arduous and life-risking rescue operations across the country. He emphasized that the presence of NDRF teams at disaster sites instills confidence among citizens by ensuring prompt and effective relief. The minister also lauded the police forces for their dedication in maintaining peace and harmony and extended his commendations to the resilient families of the martyrs.

In remembering the sacrifices of these 17 brave rescuers, the NDRF once again underscored its pledge to protect lives and uphold public safety across India.
