Prime Minister Narendra Modi was felicitated by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party on Tuesday for his decisive leadership in India’s response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack through Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. Addressing NDA MPs for the first time in over a year at the Parliament Library Building, Modi emphasized the alliance’s organic cohesion since its 1998 founding, predicting further successes.
The meeting, only the second during the current parliamentary session since the NDA government formed in June 2024, saw a resolution praising Modi’s “unwavering resolve, visionary statesmanship, and resolute command” and the armed forces’ “unmatched courage” in both operations. Operation Sindoor, a military retaliation targeting terror sites in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan, “brought the neighboring country to its knees,” while Operation Mahadev neutralized three key terrorists linked to the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians.
Modi lauded Union Home Minister Amit Shah, noting his record as India’s longest-serving Home Minister, surpassing L.K. Advani with 2,258 days since May 30, 2019. “It is just the beginning,” Modi said, hinting at Shah’s continued role, a statement Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju clarified as referring to the NDA’s long-term journey. Shah’s tenure, marked by the 2019 Article 370 abrogation and anti-Naxal successes, was a focal point.

Taking a swipe at the Opposition, Modi suggested they regretted demanding a debate on Operation Sindoor, given India’s global outreach. Post-operation, 59 MPs from various parties visited 32 countries to highlight India’s anti-terror stance, a move the resolution called a “comprehensive global outreach” demonstrating democratic maturity. The US designating The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy behind the Pahalgam attack, as a terrorist organization, and the BRICS condemnation of the attack, underscored India’s rising global clout.
Modi also criticized Congress Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for “childish” claims about Chinese encroachment, referencing a recent Supreme Court rebuke. He urged NDA MPs to participate as a united front in events like the Tiranga Yatra and National Space Day on August 23, emphasizing collective identity over regional party strength.
Noting the historic significance of August 5—the day Article 370 was revoked in 2019 and the Ram temple groundbreaking occurred in 2020—Modi reaffirmed the NDA’s commitment to constitutional values. The resolution highlighted defense reforms under Modi’s three terms, crediting self-reliance (atmanirbharata) for India’s strategic edge in Operation Sindoor.
The meeting, attended by Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president J.P. Nadda, and others like Kangana Ranaut, occurred amid parliamentary deadlock over the Special Intensive Revision of Bihar’s electoral rolls. Despite protests, NDA MPs gave Modi a thunderous welcome with chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev.’
