The Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai was evacuated on Thursday morning after authorities received a bomb threat ahead of the ongoing state legislature’s budget session. Security agencies quickly cleared the complex located at Nariman Point while police teams began an inspection of the premises.
Officials said an email threatening to blow up multiple locations triggered the security alert. Apart from Vidhan Bhavan, the message also mentioned the Bombay High Court, the Mumbai Metro network and a bank as potential targets, prompting authorities to intensify security checks in the area.
The bomb detection and disposal squad, along with sniffer dog units, conducted a thorough search of the legislature complex before the scheduled start of proceedings. The Mumbai Police confirmed that the threat later turned out to be a hoax after initial investigations.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan said there was no explosive material found at the site. Legislative Council Chairperson Ram Shinde told reporters that the email had warned of blasts at several locations, leading authorities to take immediate precautionary measures.
The evacuation took place shortly before the day’s proceedings were scheduled to begin, with the Assembly set to start at 9:45 am and the Council at 10 am as part of the state’s budget session. Authorities continued monitoring the situation while ensuring the safety of lawmakers and staff inside the legislature complex.
