The Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned businessman Robert Vadra on Tuesday in a money laundering probe tied to a 2008 Haryana land deal, prompting sharp criticism from the BJP, which branded the Nehru-Gandhi family the "most corrupt in the world."
Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, faced scrutiny over his company Skylight Hospitality’s purchase and sale of 3.5 acres in Shikohpur, allegedly at inflated profits.
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accused Vadra of "grabbing farmers’ land" during Congress rule in Haryana, claiming Rahul and Sonia Gandhi facilitated the deal.

He hailed the ED’s action as proof of the law’s might under PM Narendra Modi’s "zero tolerance" for corruption, asserting Vadra would face consequences. Bhatia also noted Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are on bail in the National Herald case, where the ED filed a chargesheet the same day, alleging laundering of Rs 988 crore.
Vadra dismissed the summons as "political vendetta," stating he had already submitted thousands of documents and faced repeated probes. He denied wrongdoing, insisting the land deal was legitimate. A 2023 Haryana government report found no violations in the deal, though it stopped short of clearing Vadra entirely.
The timing of the ED’s moves fueled Congress claims of targeted harassment, while the BJP’s rhetoric echoed its long-standing narrative against the Gandhis. With no convictions yet in these cases, the allegations remain contentious. As investigations continue, the saga underscores India’s polarized political landscape, where legal probes often intertwine with electoral battles.
