Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh presided over the morning session on Tuesday, following Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s unexpected resignation on Monday due to medical reasons.
As ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar typically led proceedings at the start of the day. His resignation, submitted to President Droupadi Murmu, cited health concerns and took effect immediately under Article 67(a) of the Constitution.
Dhankhar, 74, who assumed office in August 2022, stepped down to prioritize medical care, as stated in his letter to the President.
