The Rajya Sabha was adjourned until 2 pm on Thursday as Opposition MPs protested the rejection of 30 notices under Rule 267, demanding discussions on issues including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, alleged discrimination against migrant workers, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation, and rising cyber fraud.
The uproar followed farewell speeches for six retiring members—M Mohamed Abdulla, N Chandrasegharan, Anbumani Ramadoss, M Shanmugam, Vaiko, and P Wilson—praised by Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Leader of the House J P Nadda, and others for their contributions to democracy.
Despite a brief pause for the farewell during Zero Hour, protests resumed after the speeches, disrupting the Question Hour and forcing the adjournment around 12:30 pm. Earlier, Ujjwal Deorao Nikam took oath as a new Rajya Sabha member.
