Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar introduced two significant motions in the Lok Sabha to elect members to critical disability-focused bodies in New Delhi.
The first motion seeks to appoint two Lok Sabha members to the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), a statutory body regulating training and services for professionals aiding persons with disabilities, as per the Rehabilitation Council of India Act, 1992. The elected members will serve a two-year term or until successors are appointed, with the election process to be determined by the Speaker.
The second motion proposes electing two Lok Sabha members to the Central Advisory Board on Disability (CABD), which advises the government on disability policies and monitors the implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Their term will last until they are no longer Lok Sabha members.
These motions underscore the government’s commitment to strengthening representation and oversight in disability rehabilitation and rights, aiming to enhance policy implementation and support for persons with disabilities across India.
