The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the second time on Wednesday until 2 PM as opposition parties, including Congress and TMC, staged relentless protests demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in Bihar. Over 30 opposition members stormed the Well of the House, shouting slogans and displaying placards against the controversial SIR exercise.
Dilip Saikia, chairing the session, urged the protesters to return to their seats, stating, “The entire country is sad because of your actions. You should have a constructive discussion in the House and not disrupt the proceedings.” Despite his appeals, the protests persisted, leading to the adjournment.
Earlier in the morning, Speaker Om Birla had adjourned the House until noon, citing the opposition’s disinterest in ensuring smooth functioning. The Monsoon session, which began on July 21, has been repeatedly disrupted, initially over Operation Sindoor and now the SIR issue, with little legislative business conducted except for discussions on Operation Sindoor in both Houses.
