The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 pm on Thursday due to intense protests by Opposition members over the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, marking the fourth consecutive day of disruptions during the Monsoon Session’s Question Hour.
As the session began, Opposition MPs raised slogans and displayed placards, with some entering the Well of the House to demand a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, initiated by the Election Commission ahead of Bihar’s upcoming state assembly elections. Speaker Om Birla urged members to return to their seats, assuring they would get opportunities to raise issues as per rules. He criticized the sloganeering, specifically addressing Congress leader K C Venugopal, stating such actions were against the party’s tradition and undermined the House’s dignity.
Despite Birla’s appeals, the protests persisted, leading to the adjournment within seven minutes after only one question was addressed. The Opposition continues to press for a debate on the Bihar electoral roll issue, highlighting tensions in the ongoing parliamentary session.
