Mizoram has launched a special enrolment drive to identify eligible voters whose names are not included in the electoral rolls and facilitate their inclusion. The exercise follows the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state and is intended to ensure that eligible citizens have an opportunity to register and exercise their right to vote.
The state's final electoral rolls following the SIR were published on September 7, 2026. According to the Election Department, the final list contains 8,35,869 registered electors, including 4,32,689 women, 4,03,179 men and one third-gender elector. The rolls use July 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for determining voter eligibility.
The special drive is part of the continuous process of updating electoral rolls after the SIR. Election officials will examine cases involving voters whose names were not retained in the revised rolls and facilitate the enrolment of eligible persons. The exercise is also intended to cover people who have become eligible to vote but have not yet been registered.

The SIR process had resulted in a substantial reduction in the number of names on Mizoram's electoral rolls. Officials said 78,442 names had been removed by the time the final roll was published, while thousands of voters subsequently submitted appeals. The Election Department received 3,840 post-SIR appeals, with Lawngtlai district accounting for the largest share at 1,679.
The Election Commission has separately directed states and Union Territories where the SIR has been completed to conduct special drives for voters who may have been left out, along with first-time and young electors. The initiative is being carried out through the continuous-updation process, providing a route for eligible people to seek inclusion in the electoral rolls after completion of the revision.
The Mizoram Election Department has made electoral-roll services available through the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, including facilities to search the current roll, register for inclusion and submit complaints or appeals. The special drive comes as the Election Commission faces wider scrutiny over the SIR process, while election officials maintain that the enrolment exercise is intended to ensure that eligible voters are not left out of the electoral register.
