A 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck Jhajjar, Haryana, on Sunday afternoon, causing mild tremors but no casualties or damage, according to officials. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported the quake occurred at 4:10 p.m., with its epicenter 7 km east-northeast of Jhajjar at a depth of 10 km.
This marks the third seismic event in the Rohtak-Jhajjar region within a month. On July 17, a 3.3 magnitude quake hit near Rohtak, following a 3.7 magnitude tremor near Jhajjar earlier in July. A stronger 4.4 magnitude quake on July 7 shook Jhajjar, with tremors felt across Delhi and nearby areas. The NCS classifies these as “minor” quakes, typical for the seismically active Delhi-NCR region, which lies in Seismic Zone IV.
Local residents reported brief shaking, with some sharing on X that furniture rattled but no panic ensued. The Haryana State Disaster Management Authority confirmed no structural damage or injuries. Experts attribute the region’s frequent quakes to its proximity to fault lines in the Himalayan foothills, though Sunday’s event posed no significant risk.
