On July 10, 2025, Rifiness Warjri, Meghalaya’s youngest Everest summiteer at 20, presented a rock from the summit to the Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR) in Shillong, marking a proud moment for the state. The rock, collected during her successful climb earlier this year, joins the legacy of three other Meghalaya Everesters: Gary Jarman Lamare (2012), Wansuk Myrthong (2013), and Dolyne Kharbhih (2016).
DMR Director Mardondor Tongper hailed the gesture as a symbol of courage and inspiration, noting the rock will be preserved as a motivational exhibit for students and aspiring climbers. Rifiness, who aimed to inspire her state’s youth, said, “No goal is too high if you prepare and push your limits.” She credited her family, mentors, and the state government for their support.
The rock will be displayed at the DMR premises, serving as a testament to perseverance and a call for adventure and environmental awareness among Meghalaya’s youth.
