In a series of targeted operations, security forces arrested five militants from proscribed outfits across three districts of Manipur, police announced on Sunday.
The arrests, part of an ongoing effort to curb insurgency, occurred in Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Thoubal districts. On Saturday, two active cadres of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were apprehended in Laikhong, Imphal East. Identified as Sagolshem Lalit Meitei (36) and Ahongshangbam Tomba Singh, they were linked to extortion and recruitment activities.
On Friday, a member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba), Thingujam Ramesh Singh (31), was arrested in Tronglaobi Bazar, Bishnupur, for extortion and issuing threats. In another operation on Saturday, security forces detained an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba), Khumukcham Abosana Singh (24), from his residence in Kongpal, Imphal East.

Additionally, a member of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Meisnam Manglemnganba Meitei (27), was nabbed from Wangjing Bazar, Thoubal, for alleged involvement in insurgent activities. The operations reflect intensified efforts to dismantle networks of banned groups like KYKL, KCP, and PLA, which have been involved in extortion and violence across Manipur. Recovered items include communication devices and documents, police said.
Further investigations are underway to uncover additional links and curb insurgency in the region, which has seen heightened tensions since the 2023 ethnic clashes.
