A Maharashtra Police officer carried a 72-year-old woman on his shoulders through waist-deep floodwaters after a state transport bus became stranded in the Sarasai area of Raigad district. Personnel from Rasayani Police, assisted by volunteers from the Help Foundation, launched a rescue operation and safely evacuated all eight passengers trapped inside the bus.
Photographs released by Raigad Police show the officer carefully moving through muddy floodwaters with the elderly woman on his shoulders. The images quickly circulated on social media, drawing attention to the rescue effort carried out amid heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of Maharashtra. Police said the elderly passenger was safely taken across the flooded stretch during the operation.
Raigad Police said swift action by the Rasayani Police helped rescue the eight passengers trapped in the state transport bus. Senior Inspector Abhijit Bhujbal said police received an alert about an MSRTC bus stuck in floodwaters at Sarasai with passengers unable to get out. Officers then coordinated with volunteers from the Help Foundation and rushed to the location to begin the evacuation.

The rescue came as Maharashtra remained on high alert because of continued heavy rainfall. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the state was prepared for severe weather expected to continue until July 8. He also warned that Nashik could experience an intense spell of rain resembling a cloudburst, adding to concerns over flooding and disruption across several districts.
The State Disaster Management Authority advised private companies in Mumbai to allow employees to work from home wherever possible. Red and orange alerts were issued for parts of the Konkan region and coastal districts for July 6 and 7 because of the possibility of very heavy rainfall. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and follow official weather and safety advisories.
The Bombay High Court also relaxed attendance requirements for staff unable to travel because of heavy rain, while schools and colleges in Mumbai remained closed on Monday following an orange alert from the India Meteorological Department. Against the backdrop of widespread weather-related disruption, the Sarasai rescue has drawn attention online, particularly the officer’s effort to carry the elderly passenger safely through the floodwaters.
