Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan prorogued both houses of the state legislature on Friday, concluding the three-week monsoon session that began on June 30. The prorogation was announced by Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar and Council Chairperson Ram Shinde. The winter session is scheduled to commence in Nagpur on December 8.
The session saw the passage of significant legislation, including the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill, aimed at curbing Left-wing extremist groups, and an amendment to the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to include drug peddlers under its stringent provisions.
These measures reflect the state’s focus on tackling security and organized crime challenges, strengthening law enforcement’s ability to address both extremist activities and the growing drug trafficking menace in Maharashtra.
