In a shocking incident that has rocked Satara district, Maharashtra, Dr. Sampada Munde, a young woman doctor, allegedly died by suicide on Thursday night. The 27-year-old, who worked at Phaltan Sub-District Hospital, reportedly ended her life by hanging herself in a hotel, leaving behind a handwritten suicide note on her hand with startling allegations against two police officers.
According to sources, Dr. Munde accused PSI Gopal Badne and Police Officer Prashant Bankar of repeated physical and mental torture over the past several months. In her note, she explicitly wrote that Badne had tortured her four times, while Bankar had subjected her to ongoing harassment. These accusations have intensified public outrage and brought national attention to the case.
The tragic event reportedly stems from a prolonged dispute between Dr. Munde and the district police over a medical examination case. The conflict escalated after she claimed she was being treated unfairly by the police and even warned her superiors that she might take her life if the alleged harassment continued. Despite reaching out to senior officials within the health department, Dr. Munde’s grievances appeared unresolved.

Local authorities confirmed that a departmental inquiry was underway at the time of the suicide. The police have now initiated a detailed investigation into the allegations, with questions mounting over whether disciplinary action will be taken against the accused officers. Colleagues and residents in Phaltan expressed shock and grief over the incident. “Sampada was a dedicated doctor who cared deeply for her patients. We never imagined she would take such a drastic step,” said one hospital staff member, requesting anonymity.
The case has also ignited debates about the pressures faced by healthcare professionals, especially women, in navigating bureaucratic and administrative conflicts. Advocates and activists are now calling for stricter mechanisms to ensure accountability in cases of alleged police harassment. As Maharashtra grapples with this disturbing development, the focus remains on delivering justice and preventing further tragedies stemming from systemic harassment and workplace pressures.
