The Indore district administration on Saturday announced temporary measures to prioritise domestic LPG supply amid nationwide constraints caused by global geopolitical tensions. The move suspends commercial LPG cylinder distribution to ensure uninterrupted access for households, while new LPG connections and KYC-related processes have also been temporarily halted for one month.
Food Supply Officer and District Supply Controller M.L. Maru clarified that the suspension of commercial supply is aimed at conserving stocks for domestic use. “We are closely monitoring the situation. The process for new connections will resume as soon as the overall supply position normalises,” he said. Emergency relief measures have been introduced, allowing households without domestic connections or facing shortages to obtain a small five-kg FTL (Free Trade LPG) cylinder.
Subscription Vouchers (SVs) for new connections have not been issued by the three major oil marketing companies — Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited — since early March, although applications continue to be accepted and KYC formalities processed online. Maru assured that new connections will be issued once the SVs are resumed, and eligible consumers will be notified.

To mitigate inconvenience, all LPG agencies and oil company officials have been instructed to ensure the immediate availability of five-kg FTL cylinders. Consumers can approach their nearest agency to avail the facility, and the administration urged citizens to use LPG judiciously and avoid hoarding. “Judicious use and cooperation from the public will help maintain balance in the supply system,” officials said.
The temporary arrangement aligns with broader efforts by state and Central governments to safeguard domestic cooking fuel needs during the current supply challenges. The district administration continues to monitor the situation, and normal services are expected to resume once supply chains stabilise. Residents facing difficulties have been advised to contact their local gas agency or the district supply control room for assistance.
