A devastating landslide, triggered by heavy overnight rains, struck a tent near Shiv Gufa in the Badora area of Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir, killing two men during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

The victims, Rashpal Singh, 26, from Tuli Kalavan, and Ravi Kumar, 23, from Chenani, were deployed to maintain the track leading to a Lord Shiva shrine when the disaster hit.

Rescue operations involving police and civilians recovered the bodies from the debris. The deceased, one a JCB operator, were sleeping in the tent at the time of the landslide. Authorities have launched a postmortem, after which the bodies will be handed over to their families.

The India Meteorological Department had warned of heavy rainfall and potential landslides in the region.
