A devastating landslide struck near Kainchi Bhairav Mandir on the Yamunotri temple trek route in Uttarakhand on Monday, killing two pilgrims and injuring one. The disaster occurred 20 meters above the path, burying several in debris.
Rescue teams, including the State and National Disaster Response Forces and police, recovered the mutilated bodies of the deceased, whose identities are yet to be confirmed. The bodies were sent to Jankichatti’s primary health center. Rasik, a pilgrim from Mumbai, was rescued injured but conscious and is receiving treatment after first aid and stitches.
Authorities suspect up to four pilgrims were initially trapped. Search operations continue, aided by high-mast lights, with 108 ambulances, SDRF, police, and forest department teams deployed. Medical and veterinary personnel are also on-site. District Magistrate Prashant Arya is overseeing the response from the control room, ensuring swift rescue efforts.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the tragedy, as officials work to prevent further loss. The incident underscores the risks of trekking in landslide-prone Himalayan regions during pilgrimage season.
