Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday paid tribute to the armed forces on the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, describing it as a strong testament to India’s resolve to combat terrorism and protect national sovereignty. His remarks were issued through an official statement marking the occasion, which comes amid continued security concerns in the region following past terror incidents.
In his message, the L-G praised the courage and dedication of the men and women in uniform, stating that their “unwavering resolve and extraordinary courage” delivered a strong response to those responsible for targeting innocent civilians in Pahalgam. He said the armed forces acted decisively in defending the nation and its citizens in the face of grave security threats.
Sinha further said that Operation Sindoor symbolises India’s firm commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and integrity at any cost. He described the operation as a declaration of national determination to dismantle terror networks and ensure a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir. According to him, the mission reflects both strategic resolve and the sacrifices made by the armed forces in protecting the country.

The statement also referred to the background of the security situation following the April 22, 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, where 26 civilians, including tourists and a local pony operator, were killed by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. The attack had triggered strong condemnation nationwide and intensified security operations in the region.
Following the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reportedly given the armed forces full operational freedom to respond. India subsequently carried out strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including areas such as Muridke, Bahawalpur, and Muzaffarabad. The developments led to a sharp escalation in tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), with cross-border shelling also reported.
The statement added that India responded with further strikes on Pakistani defence installations and placed the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 in abeyance, affecting water flow arrangements between the two countries. Officials noted that Operation Sindoor has not been formally concluded but remains temporarily halted, reflecting the continuing sensitive security environment in the region.
