Kolkata Metro has experienced a significant increase in passenger traffic following the full opening of the Green Line stretch, driving a surge in the adoption of the ‘Aamar Kolkata Metro’ app for smart mobile QR ticketing. Launched to enhance commuter convenience, the app has gained widespread popularity, with Metro authorities intensifying efforts to promote its benefits since the inauguration of new routes on August 22, 2025, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Over the past week, stations such as Howrah, Sealdah, Salt Lake Sector V, Dum Dum, and Esplanade have reported an overwhelming response to the app. A Metro railway spokesperson confirmed that between 21,000 and 24,000 commuters are using mobile QR tickets daily, reflecting the app’s growing appeal. To support this transition, 72 cadets from the Bharat Scouts and Guides of Eastern Railway have been deployed at key stations to assist passengers in downloading the app from the Google Play Store or App Store and guiding them through the process of booking mobile QR tickets.
The app allows commuters to bypass long queues at booking counters, saving time and effort. Additionally, passengers who book tickets through the app before arriving at stations can benefit from a 5% discount on their fare, further incentivizing its use. Since August 25, mobile QR ticketing has been extended across the entire Kolkata Metro network, including the Green Line, Blue Line, Orange Line, Purple Line, and Yellow Line, following the initial rollout on select lines.

The newly inaugurated stretches, including Esplanade-Sealdah on the Green Line, Noapara-Biman Bandar on the Yellow Line, and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay-Beleghata on the Orange Line, have significantly expanded the Metro’s reach. Authorities are encouraging commuters to embrace this technology, which not only reduces station congestion but also offers cost savings.
The ‘Aamar Kolkata Metro’ app is proving to be a game-changer, streamlining travel and supporting Kolkata’s vision for a modern, efficient public transportation system.
