Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday expressed appreciation for the warm reception he received during his visit to Mangan district in North Sikkim, highlighting the hospitality and cultural richness of the region. His visit covered several areas, including Lachung and Lachen, where he interacted with local communities and officials.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Rijiju said he was deeply moved by the affection shown by residents of the region. He described North Sikkim as a place that reflects “strength and simplicity in its finest form,” noting that the scenic Himalayan landscape adds to its cultural and emotional significance for visitors and locals alike.
The Union Minister was accompanied during the visit by Sikkim Minister Samdup Lepcha, senior government officials, local leaders, and singer Mohit Chauhan. The delegation’s presence highlighted coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state administration aimed at strengthening public outreach and supporting developmental activities in the region.

Rijiju also praised the peaceful environment and cultural heritage of North Sikkim, stating that such interactions between leadership and local communities help strengthen national integration and mutual understanding. The visit also comes amid ongoing discussions on improving infrastructure, connectivity, and tourism in the strategically important Himalayan state.
The visit gains added significance in the broader context of development initiatives in Sikkim and the Northeast region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a recent visit to the state, inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple development projects worth around ₹4,000 crore. He has repeatedly described the Northeast as India’s “Ashtalakshmi,” emphasizing its importance in national development.
Modi also reiterated the government’s shift from an “Act East” policy to an “Act Fast” approach for accelerating growth in the region. Rijiju’s visit, officials said, aligns with this broader push to enhance infrastructure and strengthen connectivity in remote Himalayan areas, while promoting tourism and local economic development.
