Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan on Saturday directed authorities to revoke the suspension of a government school principal who had been placed under disciplinary action over an alleged objectionable social media post targeting him. The decision came a day after the principal was suspended by the General Education Department following allegations that he had shared content deemed insulting and inappropriate on social media platforms.
The principal, S. Javad, heads the Government Model Boys' Higher Secondary School in Attingal. According to the suspension order issued on Friday, the social media posts in question were considered mocking in nature and were alleged to have created a misleading impression among the public. Authorities also claimed that the content had the potential to generate political polarization among students, teachers, and the wider community.
The suspension order further stated that the action was taken following recommendations from the Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence). The report reportedly described the online activity as a serious violation of service conduct rules applicable to government employees. Based on these findings, disciplinary proceedings were initiated, and Javad was suspended from service pending further action.

However, the chief minister intervened in the matter on Saturday and instructed officials to withdraw the suspension order. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), neither Satheesan nor his office had lodged any complaint against the principal. The statement clarified that the disciplinary action had been initiated based on a complaint submitted by an external source and not at the direction of the chief minister.
The CMO also highlighted the timing of the suspension, noting that Javad was due to retire from service on May 31. At the time the suspension order was issued, he reportedly had only two days of service remaining before retirement. This factor was among the considerations taken into account while reviewing the disciplinary action against him.
The decision to revoke the suspension has drawn attention to the handling of disciplinary proceedings involving government employees and the role of social media conduct in public service. While the allegations regarding the posts remain part of the official record, the withdrawal of the suspension ensures that the principal will retire without the disciplinary action remaining in effect. No further details have been announced regarding any additional inquiry into the matter.
