Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sought a 10-day period from farmer representatives to clarify the government’s stance on the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board’s (KIADB) acquisition of over 1,000 acres of fertile land in 13 villages of Devanahalli taluk for an aerospace park. The decision follows a meeting with farmers’ organizations on Friday, amid protests against the land acquisition in Channarayapatna hobli.
Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah cited legal complexities due to preliminary and final notifications issued in April 2025, which complicate abandoning the process. “We’ve requested 10 days to review legal advice and discuss the pros and cons. The next meeting is scheduled for July 15 at 11 am to finalize our stance,” he said. The CM’s office emphasized that legal experts are being consulted to address the issue while balancing development goals.
On Thursday, Siddaramaiah met with Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, Law Minister H.K. Patil, Food Minister K.H. Muniyappa, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, and top officials to strategize. Farmers have opposed the acquisition, fearing loss of fertile agricultural land critical to their livelihoods. The aerospace park, part of Karnataka’s industrial push, has sparked concerns about environmental impact and displacement, with protests gaining traction on social media platforms like X.

The government’s response is pivotal, as Karnataka aims to balance industrial growth with farmers’ rights. The July 15 meeting will be crucial in determining whether the state can address these concerns while advancing its aerospace ambitions, with stakeholders awaiting a resolution that ensures fair compensation and sustainable development.
