A woman allegedly killed her husband with a machete following a heated argument over non-vegetarian food in Telangana’s Kamareddy district, police said. The incident occurred on the night of April 2 in a rented house where the couple, identified as Kodanda Shivaji and Lakshmi, lived with their two young daughters, aged two and one. According to police, the family had been under significant financial stress for several months, which contributed to frequent domestic disputes over money, food preferences, and lifestyle choices.
The argument reportedly began when Shivaji questioned Lakshmi for not preparing non-vegetarian food as expected. What started as a verbal exchange quickly escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, Lakshmi allegedly picked up a machete kept inside the house and struck her husband on the neck, causing him to collapse immediately from heavy bleeding. He died on the spot.
Neighbours who heard loud arguments and cries from the house promptly alerted the police. Officers rushed to the scene, secured the area, and shifted the body for post-mortem examination. The couple’s two minor daughters were present in the house at the time of the incident.

Police circle inspector Narahari stated that preliminary investigations point to ongoing family tensions driven by financial problems and personal issues. “A minor argument escalated into a violent act,” he said. Lakshmi has been taken into custody, and a murder case has been registered against her. Authorities are further investigating whether the act resulted from sudden provocation or involved any prior intent. The case continues to be under active investigation as police gather more evidence and statements from witnesses.
