Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi made a compelling case for corporates to embrace solar power for electric vehicle (EV) charging during the launch of Refex Mobility’s operations in the capital on Tuesday. Highlighting the dual benefits of reducing India’s oil import bill and curbing carbon emissions, Joshi urged businesses to lead the charge in building a sustainable future for transportation.
Speaking at the event, Joshi emphasized the transformative potential of pairing EVs with renewable energy. “To truly unlock the promise of electric vehicles and smart energy-efficient transportation, we must ensure they are powered by the Sun,” he declared. He called on corporates to adopt solar-based charging for their EV fleets, aligning with their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments to foster greener, healthier cities.
The minister outlined the government’s robust support for the EV ecosystem, including a scheme offering up to 80% of project costs for EV owners and those establishing charging infrastructure. “We are not just stopping at EVs,” Joshi added. “We’re laying the groundwork for the next frontier—clean, green hydrogen-powered mobility.” This vision underscores India’s ambitious push toward a low-carbon economy, with renewable energy at its core.

Refex Mobility, a Chennai-based firm, is already making waves in the clean mobility space. With a fleet of over 1,400 electric cars serving more than 70 corporates across Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, the company is now setting its sights on Delhi-NCR. Backed by over 200 employees and a tech-enabled transport management system, Refex plans to deploy 400 new electric cars in the region within three years. “Within a couple of quarters, we will create one of the largest corporate clean-mobility fleets in the region,” said Refex Group CMD Anil Jain.
The company’s expansion into Delhi-NCR is a strategic move to scale its operations into Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities nationwide, positioning it as a key player in India’s EV revolution. Refex’s tech-driven approach ensures efficient fleet management, optimizing routes and reducing operational carbon footprints for its corporate clients.
Joshi’s call comes at a pivotal moment as India accelerates its transition to sustainable energy. With EV adoption gaining momentum—supported by government incentives and growing infrastructure—the integration of solar power could significantly amplify environmental benefits. By reducing reliance on fossil fuel-based electricity for charging, corporates can play a pivotal role in cutting urban pollution and advancing India’s climate goals. As Refex Mobility and others expand their green fleets, the synergy of solar power and EVs could redefine urban transportation, driving India closer to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
