Jharkhand’s ruling INDIA bloc, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has vowed to pass a resolution opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls during the state assembly’s monsoon session, which begins today and runs until August 7. The decision, announced after a coalition meeting on Thursday, signals strong resistance to the Election Commission’s move, drawing parallels to protests against similar revisions in Bihar.
Soren criticized the Centre for “misusing” constitutional institutions and outlined plans to address key issues, including advocating for a separate Sarna religious code and increased OBC reservations. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Radhakrishna Kishore emphasized that the alliance is prepared to deliver “logical replies” to opposition queries during the five-day session.
The bloc’s strategy includes countering the main opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which will finalize its approach in a legislature party meeting today. Speaker Rabindranath Mahato, following an all-party meeting, expressed optimism for a cooperative and productive session.

The resolution against SIR underscores the INDIA bloc’s broader concerns about electoral processes and institutional integrity, setting the stage for heated debates in the assembly as the coalition seeks to rally support on regional and social issues.
