Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have launched a detailed investigation into the mysterious death of Border Security Force (BSF) Constable Sukhdeep Singh, whose body was recovered from a canal in Samba district on Monday evening under circumstances that have raised several questions among fellow troops and local residents alike.
The 14th Battalion BSF jawan, a resident of Ferozpur in Punjab, was reportedly on a motorcycle when the incident occurred near Rehiyan village along the Jammu-Samba highway. Local villagers spotted the body floating in the irrigation canal around 6:30 pm, pulled it out, and immediately shifted the unconscious jawan to the district hospital in Samba in a desperate bid to save his life.
Upon arrival at the medical facility, attending doctors conducted an initial examination and declared Constable Sukhdeep Singh brought dead. Senior police officers rushed to the spot, seized the motorcycle, and registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (now Section 194 of BNSS) while inquest proceedings were initiated to ascertain whether the death was purely accidental, a case of suicide, or involved any foul play.

Preliminary findings suggest the jawan may have lost control of his motorcycle and plunged into the deep canal, but investigators are awaiting the postmortem report and are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to reconstruct the exact sequence of events. The body has been preserved in the mortuary for autopsy, and the family has been informed.
In a completely unrelated and equally tragic development late Monday night, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable attached to the 117 Battalion suddenly collapsed inside the unit’s camp in the Nagrota area on the outskirts of Jammu city. Despite immediate medical attention by the camp doctor and subsequent shifting to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, he could not be revived and was declared dead. Medical authorities have prima facie attributed the cause of death to massive cardiac arrest, though the final postmortem report is awaited to confirm the exact medical reason and rule out any other possibility.
