A quick-thinking teacher at a coaching institute in Jaipur’s Mahesh Nagar saved a 19-year-old NEET aspirant from taking her life on Friday, August 29, 2025, after she attempted to jump from the terrace of a three-story building. The student, a resident of Churu, Rajasthan, living in a nearby PG accommodation, climbed to the terrace around 2:30 PM, reportedly distressed after a family visit to discuss her academic performance.
According to Mahesh Nagar police, passersby noticed the girl on the terrace edge and raised an alarm, prompting teachers to rush to the scene. One faculty member reached her just as she prepared to jump, grabbing her from behind and pulling her to safety despite her resistance. “The teacher’s swift action saved her life. She was brought down and counselled by staff and police,” said Station House Officer Rajesh Sharma. The student, whose identity remains confidential, had skipped several tests at the institute, and her family’s inquiry that afternoon reportedly triggered her distress.
The incident highlights the intense pressure faced by NEET aspirants, with Jaipur hosting over 4 lakh students annually across 3,000+ coaching centers. In 2025, 24 lakh students registered for NEET, with Rajasthan contributing 1.8 lakh. Mental health concerns have surged, with 17 suicides reported among Kota’s coaching students this year, per local police data. The institute has since arranged counseling for the student, and her family was contacted for support. Social media posts on X praised the teacher’s bravery, with @RajasthanPulse calling it “a reminder to prioritize mental health in competitive education.”
