High drama unfolded in Jaipur on Monday as Rajasthan Police unleashed water cannons on protesting members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and top Congress leaders, including former Deputy CM Sachin Pilot. The clash erupted as the demonstrators attempted to march towards Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s residence, demanding the immediate reinstatement of student union elections in the state.
The protest began at Shaheed Smarak on the bustling MI Road, where a large gathering of NSUI activists and Congress leaders, including AICC General Secretary Pilot, raised slogans against the state government's decision to suspend student body elections. Tensions escalated when protestors tried to cross police barricades en route to the CM’s residence in Civil Lines.
Police responded with water cannons to break up the crowd, resulting in chaos and scattered scuffles between demonstrators and law enforcement. Visuals from the scene showed soaked protestors clashing with police, adding to the political heat already gripping Rajasthan ahead of upcoming university elections.
