Officer trainees of the 79th batch of the Indian Revenue Service (IT) called on the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 10, 2026. The trainees, currently undergoing induction training at the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) in Nagpur, were joined by two officer trainees from the Royal Bhutan Service. The meeting provided an opportunity for the President to address the next generation of tax administrators and highlight their role in national development.
In her address, President Murmu emphasized the critical importance of direct taxes in driving India’s economic growth. She noted that a stable and transparent tax system enables governments to invest in vital sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare. According to the President, a fair taxation framework not only promotes equity but also strengthens the foundation for inclusive and sustainable growth across the country.
President Murmu underlined that the mandate of the Indian Revenue Service extends far beyond mere tax collection. She highlighted the officers’ ability to analyze complex financial transactions, trace illicit flows across borders, and navigate intricate corporate structures, making them indispensable partners in the nation’s journey toward Viksit Bharat. She stressed that IRS officers are expected to make decisions that are just, efficient, and informed by a deep understanding of business processes.
