A day after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti visited the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi to offer condolences, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah met Iranian Deputy Ambassador Mohammad Fathali on Tuesday to express his sympathies over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
During a 30-minute meeting, Abdullah conveyed his hope that the ongoing conflict would soon end and that the people of Iran would be relieved of their suffering. He also expressed solidarity with the Iranian population, noting that the crisis has affected not only the region but the wider world. “My prayers and solidarity are with the people of Iran,” Abdullah wrote in the embassy’s visitors’ book.
Abdullah was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Rajya Sabha MPs Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, and Gurwinder Singh Oberoi, who had visited the Iranian mission on Monday and signed the condolence book. The delegation emphasised the importance of international dialogue and support amid the escalating tensions in West Asia.

Mufti’s visit included discussions with Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, to raise issues regarding the safety of Indian students in cities such as Qom, Urmia, and Arak amid the ongoing hostilities. She also highlighted the challenges faced by young Indians in Iran and stressed the need for their protection during this difficult period.
