Passengers aboard an IndiGo flight from Vadodara to Delhi were left uncomfortable on Sunday night after a technical fault in the aircraft’s ground power system led to a temporary loss of electricity and air conditioning inside the cabin, causing a disruption that lasted for nearly 30 minutes before departure. The incident occurred on IndiGo flight 6E 657, which was scheduled to take off from Vadodara at 8:40 pm on May 17.
According to airport officials, around 160 passengers had already boarded the aircraft when the ground power unit (GPU)—which supplies electricity to parked aircraft—stopped functioning, leaving the plane without power support while still on the ground. As a result, the cabin was plunged into darkness and the air conditioning system also stopped working, causing discomfort among passengers seated inside.
Reports indicated that travellers began sweating due to rising temperatures inside the aircraft while they remained seated during the disruption.Engineers took approximately 12 to 15 minutes to identify and fix the technical fault in the ground power unit. However, an additional 15 minutes were required to fully restore electrical power to the aircraft before it was deemed ready for departure.

The airline added that passengers were kept informed throughout the delay and that efforts were made to minimise inconvenience. It also reiterated that passenger safety and comfort remain its top priority. The incident highlights how ground support systems play a critical role in aircraft operations even before take-off, with any technical failure potentially affecting passenger experience and departure schedules.
