Mumbai is experiencing rising temperatures this week, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in the city and neighbouring districts. On Friday, Mumbai recorded the highest temperature of the year at 38.9 degrees Celsius, well above the seasonal average.
The IMD has forecast hot and humid weather for Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad over the coming days. Residents are advised to take precautions as the combination of high heat and humidity may lead to discomfort and health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups. The “hot and humid” advisory covers Friday, Sunday, and Monday, warning that these conditions are likely to persist intermittently.
A district-wise forecast from March 6 to March 10 indicates that weather patterns will largely remain similar during this period. In Palghar, hot and humid conditions are expected in isolated pockets on March 6, followed by dry conditions on March 7, with hot and humid conditions returning on March 8 and 9.

Thane and Mumbai districts are expected to experience similar patterns, with hot and humid pockets on March 6, dry conditions on March 7, and a return of heat and humidity on March 8 and 9. Raigad is forecast to have hot and humid pockets on March 6, dry weather on March 7, and isolated heat returning on March 8.
Officials advise residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. The IMD will continue monitoring conditions and issue updates as needed.
With temperatures expected to remain above seasonal norms, the alert serves as a reminder for residents across Mumbai and adjoining districts to remain vigilant and prepared for continued heatwave conditions.
