The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a warning for Arunachal Pradesh, predicting heavy rainfall across several districts in the coming days, raising concerns about potential flooding, landslides, and disruptions. A 'yellow alert' has been issued for East Kameng, Lower Subansiri, West Siang, Changlang, Tirap, and Longding districts, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by heavy showers that could wreak havoc in vulnerable areas.
The IMD’s bulletin, released on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, highlights an active monsoon phase, with scattered to widespread rainfall expected in Siang, East Siang, West Kameng, and adjoining regions. Isolated rain or thundershowers are also likely in Lohit, Namsai, Anjaw, Kurung Kumey, and Tawang. The weather office warns that rainfall activity will intensify between August 28 and 30, particularly in the foothills and eastern belts, where moderate to heavy showers could exacerbate risks.
Residents in high-risk zones have been urged to stay vigilant due to the potential for waterlogging, localized flooding, landslides, and traffic disruptions. The IMD has advised district administrations to prepare for emergencies, emphasizing the need for close monitoring of rivers and landslide-prone areas. The public is cautioned against unnecessary travel and encouraged to follow local advisories to stay safe.
