A tragic accident in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, resulted in the deaths of two women and injuries to six others when an autorickshaw crashed into a stationary truck on the Agra-Etawah road near Korikuan village. The autorickshaw was carrying passengers from Raipura village in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district to attend a programme in Agra when the collision occurred, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava.
The deceased were identified as Anita Devi, 50, from Raipura village, and Viranshree, 55, from Chakrapura village in Bhind, both of whom succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Six other passengers sustained injuries and were promptly transported to the district hospital. Dr. Rahul from the hospital reported that five of the injured, including three women, were transferred to Saifai PGI hospital due to their critical condition.
The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident. The incident underscores the persistent road safety challenges in the region, prompting calls for enhanced measures to prevent such tragedies on busy highways.
