The Assam Chief Minister’s Office has released what it described as the original video footage after a manipulated image involving Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and a woman circulated widely on social media. The CMO said the footage was shared to provide the original context and demonstrate how the viral image had allegedly been altered using artificial intelligence and other digital editing tools.
According to the CMO, the image was created and circulated with the alleged intention of misleading people and harming the reputation of the Chief Minister. The office maintained that the viral image did not accurately represent the events captured in the source footage. However, the authenticity of the released video and the CMO’s claims about the alleged manipulation have not been independently verified.
Police sources in Assam said a case has been registered in connection with the alleged creation and circulation of the digitally altered image. The CMO also said that people suspected of involvement in producing and distributing the material have been identified and that legal proceedings are underway.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the use of artificial intelligence and digital editing tools to create realistic-looking but misleading images and videos. Such manipulated material can be circulated rapidly through social media, making it difficult for users to distinguish genuine footage from altered content without checking the original source.
The Chief Minister’s Office urged people to verify the authenticity of photographs and videos before sharing them online. It also warned that individuals involved in creating or circulating fabricated material could face legal action, depending on the findings of the investigation and applicable laws.
