The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, on Monday approved a series of key decisions, including the recruitment of around 7,500 personnel across various government departments, an increase in the honorarium for ASHA workers and several measures aimed at strengthening medical education and public services. The Cabinet meeting lasted for more than six hours, beginning at 11 a.m. and concluding after 5 p.m., following which Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan and Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma briefed the media on the decisions.

A major focus of the meeting was employment generation through large-scale recruitment in the education sector. The Cabinet approved the filling of 3,950 posts by appointing one watchman and one Multi-Task Worker in each of the state's 1,975 government senior secondary schools. It also sanctioned the recruitment of 200 Junior Office Assistants (Library) to strengthen administrative and library services in educational institutions across Himachal Pradesh.

The Cabinet further approved a one-time relaxation of one year in the upper age limit for candidates applying for the recruitment of 800 Constables in the Himachal Pradesh Police. The decision is expected to benefit aspirants who may have become ineligible due to delays in the recruitment process, allowing more candidates an opportunity to compete for vacancies in the police department.

In the healthcare sector, the Cabinet decided to enhance the honorarium paid to Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers, recognising their contribution to primary healthcare delivery across the state. The government also approved measures to strengthen medical education, including exempting doctors serving in Radiodiagnosis departments, AIIMS Chamiyana and other government medical colleges from mandatory field postings for a period of six years, with the aim of improving the availability of specialist services and teaching faculty.

The decisions reflect the state government's continued emphasis on expanding employment opportunities, improving public healthcare infrastructure and strengthening educational institutions. Officials said the recruitment drive would help address staffing shortages across departments while improving the delivery of essential public services, particularly in schools, healthcare facilities and law enforcement agencies.

The Cabinet's decisions are expected to be implemented in phases following the completion of administrative formalities and recruitment procedures. By approving thousands of new posts, increasing support for frontline healthcare workers and introducing reforms in medical education, the Himachal Pradesh government aims to enhance governance, improve service delivery and create additional employment opportunities for eligible candidates across the state.
