In an extraordinary act of bravery at Mumbai’s Ram Mandir railway station, Vikas Bendre successfully assisted a woman in labor to deliver her baby on the platform at around 1 am on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The incident, which has gone viral on social media, saw Bendre, guided by a female doctor via video call, step in when emergency services were delayed, earning him widespread acclaim as a "real-life Rancho" inspired by Aamir Khan’s character from the film 3 Idiots.
The dramatic event unfolded when the woman, traveling on a train, went into labor mid-journey. Her family had earlier sought medical assistance from a nearby hospital but was turned away, forcing them to board the train to reach home. Noticing her distress, Bendre pulled the emergency chain to halt the train and took immediate action. Unable to promptly connect with emergency services, he contacted a female doctor who provided step-by-step guidance over a video call to facilitate the delivery. “It’s the first time I’ve ever done something like this. I was very scared, but a madam helped me over a video call,” Bendre recounted in a video shared by eyewitness and musician Manjeet Dhillon on Instagram.
Dhillon’s post praised Bendre’s courage, noting that the baby was “half inside and half outside” when he intervened, describing the moment as divinely orchestrated. Despite initial delays in securing an ambulance, Bendre’s precise adherence to the doctor’s instructions ensured the safe delivery of the newborn and the mother’s well-being. Following the delivery, the mother and child were safely transported to a hospital with assistance from those present. Dhillon emphasized the humanity of the act, stating, “Many people were just watching and walking away, but we couldn’t—because we are human.”
