The India Meteorological Department has forecast unsettled weather across several parts of the country, with heavy rain expected in parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The forecast also points to thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several northern and southern regions. Weather conditions are expected to remain changeable over the coming days as different parts of the country experience rain of varying intensity.
In Tamil Nadu, the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall on October 8, 9 and 10, with thunderstorms and lightning also possible. The weather department has maintained warnings for the state and Puducherry during this period. The rain is expected to be uneven, with some areas receiving heavier showers while other locations may see thunderstorms without significant rainfall.
Kerala is also expected to receive periods of rain, including heavy showers in some areas. The forecast indicates that rainfall could continue across several districts, with thunderstorms and strong winds possible in isolated locations. Authorities have also urged people in affected areas to remain attentive to local weather warnings, particularly during periods of intense rain.

Uttarakhand is another area under close watch, with a yellow alert issued for eight districts. Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Pauri Garhwal, Almora, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar are expected to receive moderate rainfall over the next few days. Gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are also possible, while higher parts of the state could experience snowfall.
Rain and thunderstorms are also likely across parts of north India. Delhi may remain partly cloudy on October 9, with a maximum temperature of around 32 degrees Celsius, while parts of Uttar Pradesh could receive scattered showers. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are also expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, rain and gusty winds during the forecast period.
The latest weather pattern comes as the southwest monsoon continues its withdrawal while other weather systems influence conditions across different regions. The IMD has forecast a mix of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds rather than uniform weather across the country. People in areas under alerts are advised to follow local weather updates and exercise caution during thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall.
