After eight years, the Guwahati Traffic Police have reverted to their traditional white uniform starting Saturday, a move aimed at promoting uniformity across the state and improving operational effectiveness.
In 2017, the department had switched to navy blue trousers and sky blue shirts, replacing the white attire that had been the hallmark of the traffic police for decades.
The decision to reinstate the white uniform followed a thorough review considering functional needs, field conditions, and feedback from police personnel, road safety experts, and the public.

Historically, the white uniform has symbolized visibility, professionalism, and approachability for traffic officers in Guwahati.
The earlier change to blue uniforms was intended to enhance comfort and suitability for the city’s climate, as well as improve visibility on the roads, the official statement noted.
