Ahmedabad has received a major infrastructure boost with the state government announcing Rs 1,099 crore for a series of urban development projects aimed at improving civic amenities and modernizing the city. The announcement was made on Sunday during an event that saw the inauguration and foundation-laying of multiple initiatives across housing, transport, green spaces, and public facilities.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presided over the event, highlighting that the projects are designed to make urban living “easier and more convenient” while enhancing Ahmedabad’s global profile. The development plan includes construction of bridges, gardens, lakes, auditoriums, and other urban infrastructure to expand the city’s capacity and support sustainable growth.
Patel emphasized that Gujarat’s urban development follows a consistent policy direction established in 2005 under the “Urban Development Year” initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with 2025 continuing the focus on modern city planning. He noted that Ahmedabad, recognized as a World Heritage City, is moving toward modern development while retaining its cultural and historical identity.

Over the past five years, Ahmedabad has completed more than 13,000 road projects and 6,152 stormwater and drainage works, alongside upgrades to the city’s drinking water distribution network. Efforts to develop a green city have seen over 450 projects worth more than Rs 110 crore. In the transport sector, 21 urban mobility projects totaling over Rs 2,561 crore have been implemented, including expansions to the BRTS and Metro networks. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), housing for thousands of residents has been constructed at a cost exceeding Rs 4,501 crore.
In addition, the government is digitizing Anganwadi services through the “Poshan Tracker” app to monitor child and maternal health in real time. Over 55,000 Anganwadi workers will receive smartphones, enabling faster and more accurate data collection, improved nutrition monitoring, and better management of take-home rations. The state has allocated Rs 360 crore to strengthen Anganwadi infrastructure, according to State Women and Child Development Minister Manisha Vakil.
Earlier in the day, Patel inaugurated the Satadhar Junction flyover in Ghatlodia, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore. The 936-metre-long and 16.6-metre-wide flyover, funded under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, is expected to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow along the Naranpura–Sola Science City route. State Urban Development Minister Darshana Vaghela emphasized that providing strong infrastructure, good roads, and clean drinking water remains a top priority, with continued investment ensuring the city’s sustained development.
