Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant approved a transformative initiative, the ‘Mukhyamantri Rozgar Yojana’, to create job opportunities for youths through entrepreneurship, as announced during a board meeting of the state-run Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Limited in Panaji. The initiative aims to foster self-reliance and employment by supporting young entrepreneurs.
Sawant also greenlit a partnership with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) to train faculty from government colleges and higher secondary schools, embedding entrepreneurial education across Goa’s academic institutions. To bolster local businesses, he directed the EDC to design targeted loan schemes and simplify access to existing financial support. This year, EDC has sanctioned loans worth approximately Rs 40 crore.
The CM also approved EDC Limited’s financial statements for 2024-25, showcasing a robust performance with a revenue of Rs 111.47 crore, a profit of Rs 81.27 crore, and a net worth of Rs 840 crore, with gross NPAs below 0.25 percent. These steps signal a strong push to accelerate Goa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and enhance financial inclusion for local businesses.
