The monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly descended into chaos as opposition members disrupted proceedings over State Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane’s refusal to answer a question.
The disruption began when Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) MLA Viresh Borkar raised a query about the constitution of the state’s Town and Country Planning (TCP) Board. Citing legal constraints, Rane declined to respond, stating that the matter was sub judice and that House rules prohibit discussions on issues pending in court.
Opposition members, including Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, RGP’s Borkar, and AAP MLA Venzy Viegas, rejected Rane’s explanation, arguing that public interest issues, like the recent Mhadei river dispute discussion, had been allowed despite legal sensitivities. They accused the minister of evading accountability.
As Rane stood firm, opposition MLAs from Congress, RGP, and AAP stormed the well of the House, halting proceedings. Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar attempted to calm the situation but ultimately adjourned the session for ten minutes. The incident highlights growing tensions between the ruling and opposition benches during the ongoing session.
