Goa’s solar industry is poised for a massive leap, with the Solar Power Association of Goa (SPAG) projecting a business turnover of Rs 325 crore by 2027, driven by robust government policies and growing investments. SPAG President Sandeep Naik, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, hailed the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and Goa State Solar Policy as “game-changers” for green energy.
Currently, Goa has 12 MW of installed solar capacity, with 2 MW under progress, aiming for 65 MW by 2027. Consumer investments are expected to soar from Rs 18 crore to Rs 162 crore, while the industry’s turnover is set to jump from Rs 37 crore to Rs 325 crore. Naik highlighted that the number of solar entrepreneurs will triple from 45 to 135, creating 2,250 direct and 6,750 indirect jobs, up from 750 and 1,875, respectively.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s push for sustainable energy has spurred adoption, with over 4,700 rooftop solar approvals granted under the PM scheme, generating 7.34 MW. Subsidies totaling Rs 13.5 crore from the central government via the state and Rs 5.37 crore directly have fueled growth, alongside Rs 4.48 crore in GST collections, projected to reach Rs 39 crore by 2027.
